More About

Lives Eliminated,
Dreams Illuminated

American painter Lauren Bergman began this series in response to the 2017 “Unite the Right” white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia — a repulsive echo of Nazi gatherings of the 1930s. Through her original compositions for each portrait, Israeli composer Ella Milch-Sheriff extends the emotional impact of Bergman’s paintings. LEDI aims to tell these stories, personalize the horror these young women experienced, and provoke important conversations about the Holocaust and the dangerous escalation of antisemitism.
